ILAS Special Seminar
ILAS Special Seminar at Kansai Seminar House 2019 We would like to invite you to an international exchange program which will be held for two days (Feb 12 ~ Feb 13, 2019) at Kansai Seminar House, located near Shugakuin Rikyu. In this program, students will work on a project in groups. All of the program’s content will be carried out in English. This seminar has the same content as the event held in February 2018. The contents are as follows: ① Visit a shrine or temple in the Shugakuin area and produce a Pecha-Kucha style presentation which introduces and explains it (Professors Daniel Milne and David Lees will support this). Students will work in groups on a project about a tourist site in the culturally rich Shugakuin area. Students will plan the project and visit the shrine/temple and surrounding area, gathering data and photographs for their project, and create a short Pecha-Kucha style presentation which will be presented on the second day. This will provide opportunities to learn about the history and culture of the area, and about creating and giving good presentations as well as deepen international friendships. ② Lecture by Kyoto University President Juichi Yamagiwa (Subject: “What I found in the fieldworks of primatology”) and Conversation with President Yamagiwa. Total forty students (KU students and international students from partner Universities) plus four faculty members(Lees, Milne, Yoshida & Miwa) *If the number of applicants exceeds capacity, participants will be chosen by lottery.

All applicants will receive emails with the result of the selection (or lottery).Since some cancellations are to be expected, a waiting list will be issued.
・ Accommodation(Kansai Seminar House at Shugakuin) ・ Transportation(round trip between Kansai Seminar House and Kyoto University by a chartered bus) ・ Lunch and dinner of the first day and breakfast of the second day.
・ Lunch of the second day: JPY 1,600 ・ Admission fee to shrine/temple: This will depend on the place you visit *Lunch fee(JPY 1,600) will be collected before the program. We will inform participants of the due date and where to pay this fee by email on Jan. 30, 2019. If it is not paid by the due date, your participation will be canceled.
If a participant calls off his/her participation for any reason, send an email without fail (even on the morning of departure) to: Please note that if you cancel after 12:00 pm on Friday, February 8, fees for the lunch (JPY 1,600) will not be refunded. If you cancel without giving prior notice as requested above, you may be refused participation in similar events in the future. Since there may be many applicants waiting for a cancellation, please let us know as soon as possible when you decide to cancel. The detailed schedule is as follows:
